It often seems to be the way that as soon as everyone is back at school, the weather turns beautiful and September is delightful. It's looking that way this year, too, as the shockingly cold north wind has given way to balmy sunshine on the first day of term!
Since I left school a good long time ago, this is not a source of personal ire to me, and I'm looking forward to pleasant autumnal meanderings in London as I research for our next series of titles. This is my very favourite part of the whole exciting process of creating Step Outside Guides. Walking, looking and thinking, working out themes and patterns, trying to see the city through children's eyes; how fortunate am I to be able to spend so much time enjoying London in this way!
There are great passing events to be witnessed too, and from Friday 5th to Tuesday 9th there is the breathtaking Royal Greenwich Tall Ships Festival, taking place around Greenwich, Woolwich and West India Dock. This is part of the Totally Thames festival, which is running throughout September, and has a huge variety of events and happenings, including a two-for-one offer on River Travel throughout the month. Get your token for this from totallythames.org/september-river-travel.
For those more interested in dry land in general, and yummy grub in particular, I recently came across About.com's guide to afternoon tea in London, I love afternoon tea, and this site is excellent and comprehensive, and, apparently, exhaustively researched! Sadly none are able to be included in our Step Outside Guides, because none of them are free (for shame!), but whether you are after nice tea on a budget, a gluten free meal, or poshest of the posh, this site could have you booking a venue within seconds of reading it!
Happily, September in London is going to be as great as ever - I hope you enjoy it!
